BRANDING

For the first task when it came to came to construction was to set about creating a brand for my fictional radio station. By looking at my research I concluded that it should be simple, have a maximum of 2 colours and include the stations frequency. At first, I roughly drafted a few ideas just to get the ball rolling.

After drawing some rough ideas I decided with the help of a few friends that the best two logos were the simpler bottom logo on the first photo and the top left one. I then decided that although I liked the top left logo it was a little impracticle. The logo needs to be quite compact so it can fit on the blog and look appropriate. For this reason, I chose the bottom logo.

I then sketched it again and added the coloured in 'o'. I did this to represent the idea of 'a whole' to imply a 'whole community' to show the togetherness and wholeness of a local radio station and how it serves its community. After I had settled on this I transferred the logo onto my computer to start creating it properly.

The last photo shows the progression of the logo as i was creating it. I started by choosing the poistioning of the text and decided to go with the simple one on top of the other layout. Next i decided to but the 'Rumford' text in capital letters to emphasise the local identiy of the station. After this i chose the fonts for the text and added a frequency. I went with the 92.2 FM frequency simply as there is no station currently broadcasting on this signal. For the frequency and the 'Radio' text i chose the font 'Lato Hairline' and for the 'Rumford' text i chose the similar 'Lato Black' font. By choosing fonts from the same family it adds a consistancy within the logo to make it look more proffesional. Also by choosing these to fonts it again adds focus to the 'Rumford' section. After this i moved the positioning of the 92.2 to just above the 'F' as it looked better and added the filled in circle. Finally i added colour to the logo. I chose to use three shaded of more or less the same colour in order to make sure it looked proffesional and not over complicated. I chose the colour scheme in the hope that the browner and orangy colour would in some way represent a once industral town that has now been devloped and transformed into a much brigher place. This is seen by the colours transitioning from darker to lighter.
