THE SCRIPT

Below is the script for the enitre news bulletin. The VOX pop will not be scripted as such, i will instead put forward the idea of the parking charge to some people and see what their oppions would be if their local council actually proposed such a sugestion.

Tony Horne:
Good afternoon, its twelve o’clock and this is the mid-day news with me Tony Horne. Our top story this afternoon is a developing situation at Rumford’s Rosethawn Park. Authorities closed off the area completely around half an hour ago after reports of suspicious activity within the area. As we understand it no information is yet being given out by the authorities by we do have a on the scene reporter there for us. Are you there John?

 

John Shields:
Yes, thank you Tony. I am here just outside Rosethawn Park at the end of Acorn Way. That’s one of two of the roads that bypasses the recreational area, as you can imagine its extremely busy as the area remains sealed off. You can probably hear around me that there is lot of distress and panic, this is also residential area and many people want to know when they will be able to return to their homes as Acorn Way has been completely evacuated. It seems to me Tony that police and special response teams here are doing their best to co-ordinate a response but they are unfortunately failing as no one really knows what’s happening

Thank you John, we will of course keep you updated with any further information about that story. In other news a government report has found that unemployment in Rumford has decreased by 18% in the last five years with now only 1 in 50 residents on the unemployment register. I spoke to

Professor Gemma Flackton who teaches economics at the University of Rumford about this report.

 

So professor is this as good as it sounds?

 

Gemma Flackton:
Well it’s incredibly important to say that this is good, less unemployment is always a good thing. However, I believe it’s just as important to question the quality of these jobs. Unemployment could be at 0% but if people are working on zero hours’ contracts then that’s not good for the local economy and intact the country as a whole.

Thanks Tony, Rumford Rovers cleared a fantastic 4 nil win against Burnington City yesterday despite their main striker Alexi Gromsci being sent off just 8 minutes into the match after allegedly shouting racist abuse at a fan after an altercation between the two. An investigation is underway. The rovers will play without him against Farnworth FC tomorrow at home and we will of course have full match commentary including build up from four o’clock.

 

Tony Horne:
Finally, today, Rumford district council have announced plans to implement a standard £2.00 an hour parking fee throughout the town centre. This will mean motorists will have to pay the fee if they park in any car park even if the charge was previously free. Well we went down to Rumford Community Centre to ask you what you think.

Travel now and there is only two major problems on the roads and that’s the tailbacks on acorn way due to that incident we mentioned before, no updates on that unfortunately. There is also major delay on the M6 Southbound at junction 19 near Knutsford that’s due to an overturned lorry so do avoid that if you can. The weathers looking good for the rest of the afternoon but there may be some patchy showers tonight, its also going to be very windy with highs of just 2 Celsius. Quite a dry day tomorrow with some sunny spells ..... im sorry, we are going to have to interrupt the weather as we have just had some major developments concerning our  first story about Rosethawn Park, and i think were going back to John, is he there?

 

Welcome back, I don’t know if you could hear that but there does seem to be some gunfire coming from inside the park, there is also a helicopter circling above, this does seem to be a very dramatic situation here Tony. Ive just seen....

 

We seem to have lost John there we will do our best to find out whats going on but in the meantime we'll have a little bit of music.
